Who is this little pig?

We’re sisters Katherine & Jessica, mums of young kids, who founded a meal kit company together in 2013 in our own kitchen with the help of Mum, Dad, our husbands and siblings. This Little Pig was started with a burning (or shall we say medium rare!) desire to show people just how easy (and fun!) it could be to create something delicious in your kitchen using beautiful WA produce.
We wanted to alleviate the mental load of planning and shopping for food (not to mention driving around to all the amazing specialty suppliers located all over Perth), whilst still keeping the joy of incredible ingredients and the cooking process. We were determined to be more than just a meal kit company and be the best of the West packed into a box and delivered to your door. Everything we do is carefully curated from an all-star selection of WA producers and suppliers; from our produce boxes, gourmet essentials, snacks and a meticulously curated wine list. We never wanted to be a boring faceless company that had no heart and did everything like everyone else. We have stayed true to our why's and every day we get to work with a great team of locals who love food and somehow no matter what happens in the day, make packing delicious food look easy and fun.
How We Got Started
Katherine was busy designing recipe cards for a university research project and Jessica was a mining recruitment manager busy trying to convince her to start a food blog called This Little Pig Went to Market. When Katherine tested the recipe cards with friends, they loved them—they said, “recipe cards were great but we’d pay you if you delivered our ingredients”. Jess and Katherine thought, “sure, we love feeding people so why not?” They called it This Little Pig Went to Market and set off on the journey of googling how to start a food business – meal kits weren’t really a thing back in 2013.
We had a vision!! A huge warehouse, a big launch party with family and friends cheering as our fleet of vans left for the first day of deliveries whilst (eco) pig-shaped balloons floated into the sky. Thankfully, a business-savvy family member suggested we start small—just five boxes for friends and family (what a killjoy, right?). Turns out, meal kits are hard work! That lesson in starting lean shaped everything we do and has kept us in business many times over.
Little pig has grown considerably since those 5 boxes packed for the test in our kitchen but we have always kept to our why's of local, premium quality produce, deliciousness and great customer service at the heart of everything we do and of course, not taking ourselves too seriously.
